Not only do the games themselves differ, but how well the participants learn what the simulation is designed to teach can vary widely even when the same game is used. Given the expense and effort involved in using a simulation as a teaching device, it is important to understand what enhances the learning experience. Otherwise, a simulation can be a waste of significant time and financial resources.
