MIS: Learning with a capital E“In a training context, ROI means something different. People always talk about ROI in IT terms and justify spending in terms of cost savings. There are tangible elements in e-learning that you can do this with. Learning management systems (LMS) vendors focus on administrative costs and ask how many administrators you have doing paperwork, but there’s the broader question of how you evaluate the effectiveness of training. It’s not just about how much you can save but why you’re doing it at all. A lot of it tends to be an act of faith but it’s the hard cost – ROI within 12 months – that ends up being put to the board of directors, who are looking to cut costs.”
