Converge Magazine: An Instant Feedback Learning Environment
Students pick up a zapper (handheld responder) as they come into class. With the zappers, they can respond to yes/no or multiple-choice questions posed during the lecture. The zappers send a signal to the computer, which records their selections anonymously... After all the responses are collected, a histogram (a visual record) of the possible responses flashes on the screen. Within minutes, Harshman (lecturer) can see how many students understand the topic. If they don’t, he revamps the instruction before moving on to the next topic.
