A conversation with Malcolm Gladwell
Charlie Rose interviews Malcolm Gladwell on his new book, Outliers. Wonderful interview that touches upon performance and meaningful work.
Gladwell: Meaningful work is one of the most important things we can impart to children. Meaningful work is work that is autonomous. Work that is complex, that occupies your mind. And work where there is a relationship between effort and reward — for everything you put in, you get something out…
Gladwell also states that most people are experience-rich but theory-poor. That is that we don't put in enough time and effort to understand and organize our experiences to make it better for us going forward. Our minds are running helter-skelter all the time.
There are more discussions at 37 Signals on Gladwell's concept of meaningful work.
